Why we publish this type of data/information
Legally, Councils are required to make their Constitution available for inspection at their offices under Section 9P of the Local Government Act 2000.
As part of our ongoing commitment to increase openness and transparency we also publish details of our Constitution on our website.

The Constitution sets out how we operate, how decisions are made and the procedures which are followed to ensure that these are efficient, transparent and accountable to local people.
Some of these processes are required by the law, while others are a matter for us to choose.
What information is included in this data?
The Constitution is divided into 15 articles which set out the basic rules governing our business. More detailed procedures and codes of practice are provided in separate rules and protocols at the end of the document.

The Constitution documents (i.e. the articles, procedures and codes of practice) are prepared in accordance with the Local Government Act 2000. Therefore, all required information is contained within these documents.
