Consultation on move to 4 yearly elections

Published Thursday, 26th July 2018

We are considering whether to change the current cycle of elections from every year to every four years.

This would mean all councillors would be up for election at the same time every four years, rather than a third of councillors every year.

A consultation has been launched to inform its decision and we are asking for views ahead of a special meeting to discuss this change on Tuesday 25 September.

Please email comments to Tracy Turner or write to:

Nelson Town Hall

by 5pm on Tuesday 11 September.
The Council is also proposing to reduce the number councillors from 49 to 30 from May 2020.
The Local Government Boundary Commission will carry out a formal electoral review and make recommendations.
These would then be the subject of a public consultation before a final decision is made.
