Local Plan (Fifth Edition)

Key Stages

Notification

Publication of the notice of intention to commence the preparation of a local plan and the local plan timetable are the start of a four month notice period.

Gateways 1, 2 and 3

Gateway 1 – A self-assessment of the Council’s readiness to start preparation of a new local plan. Publishing the results of the assessment marks the start of the 30-month plan-making process.

Gateway 2 – The Council receives independent observations and advice from the Planning inspectorate on the progress it has made towards preparing a sound local plan.

Gateway 3 – An independent planning inspector, appointed by the Planning Inspectorate, assesses whether the prescribed requirements for plan-making have been met, and whether the local plan is ready to proceed to examination.

Submission

The Council submits the local plan and any supporting documents to the Secretary of State for independent examination.

Adoption

If successful at examination, the local plan can be adopted by the Council.
