Climate Change
Our Plan for a Greener Pendle
We’ve declared a climate emergency – and we’re backing it up with action.
Our Climate Emergency Action Plan sets out how we’re cutting carbon, protecting nature, and building a more sustainable future for everyone in Pendle. Key priorities include:
- Making travel greener and cleaner
- Cutting emissions from buildings and energy use
- Reducing waste and water consumption
- Empowering communities to act
- Inspiring future generations
- Putting climate at the heart of every decision
- Supporting biodiversity and boosting local carbon offsetting
We’re already making progress:
✔ Planted 5,000 trees — smashing our 3,000 target
✔ Switched 44 council vehicles to low-emission models
✔ Installed solar panels on key council buildings
✔ Cut carbon emissions by 5% every year
✔ Switched to 100% renewable electricity
✔ Encouraged active travel for staff with new facilities
✔ The Council Climate Action Scorecard shows our score rose from 21% (2023) to 30% (2025) – real progress towards our net zero goals
