Key performance indicators

Number of private sector dwellings that are returned into occupation

When looking at this information please be aware that:

  • The green column represents the number of properties brought back into use for the year-to-date (i.e. the number for each quarter added together),
  • The blue line represents the historical data for the year-to-date (i.e. how many properties had been brought back into use from the start of the year until the end of the specific quarter)

Empty Homes cause problems because they are targets for criminal damage, fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour. They also represent a wasted housing resource which can lower the value of neighbouring properties.

Having an empty home that is in a deteriorating condition adjoining your home can also result in damage to your property. For example, empty homes are not heated and this can lead to damp along a party wall.

We have a high number of empty homes in Pendle which we are committed to reducing. Our Strategic Plan has set a target to bring over 290 empty properties back into use during the period 2011-2014.

This indicator will help us see how well we are doing in meeting this target.
