Compulsory Purchase of Land at Pendle Rise Shopping Centre in Nelson

  1. Notice is hereby given that the Borough Council of Pendle has made The Borough of Pendle (Pendle Rise Shopping Centre, Nelson) Compulsory Purchase Order 2024 on 11 October 2024 under Section 226(1)(a) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. It is about to submit this order to the Secretary of State for Housing Communities and Local Government for confirmation, and if confirmed, the order will authorise the Borough Council of Pendle to purchase compulsorily the land described below for the purpose of facilitating the carrying out of development, redevelopment or improvement on or in relation to such land by demolition of the existing shopping centre and redevelopment for retail use including access, car parking and landscaping, thereby contributing towards the promotion and/or economic, social and environmental well-being of the area.
  2. A copy of the order and of the accompanying map may be seen between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday at 1 Market Street, Nelson, Lancashire BB9 7LJ. 
  3. A copy of the order and accompanying map, Statement of Reasons and documents referred to in the Statement of Reasons may be viewed online at www.pendle.gov.uk/pendlerisecpo.
  4. Any objection to the order must be made in writing to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government addressed to: the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Planning Casework Unit, 23 Stephenson Street, Birmingham B2 4BH, or pcu@communities.gov.uk before 15 November 2024 and should state the title of the order, the grounds of objection and the objector's address and interests in the land.
