Conservation area being considered for Keighley Road area of Colne
Published Monday, 5th January 2026
A conservation area is being considered for the Keighley Road area of Colne – and Pendle Borough Council wants to know your thoughts.
Colne residents living in the proposed area are being asked if they think designating the streets and greenspaces off Keighley Road - incorporating Colne Cricket Ground, Colne Cemetery, Carry Lane and up to Skipton Road and Byron Road - as a conservation area is a good idea.
The suggestion follows a request to the Council and a Conservation Area Appraisal has now been prepared.
The appraisal suggests an area that may be suitable and sets out its historic and architectural significance.
Councillor David Whipp, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “The Executive has considered the proposed conservation area. Now we want to hear what residents think.
“We are holding three informal drop-in sessions to allow people to see what is being proposed and to talk to us directly about what a conservation area is and what implications it may have for those living and working in the area.”
The drop-in sessions will be at:
Colne Library - Saturday 10th January, 11am - 2pm
Colne Library - Wednesday 14th January, 10am - 1pm
Colne Cricket Club - Wednesday 14th January, 5pm - 8pm
Councillor Lola Whipp, Pendle Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Strategic and Local Planning and Infrastructure, added: “In order to help interested parties, we have prepared some information outlining the benefits and disadvantages of a conservation area, as well as detailing some of the planning impacts to consider if you have a home or business in such an area.”
For people not able to attend the in-person sessions, there is a survey available – as well as a map and other relevant information - on the website www.pendle.gov.uk/keighleyroad
