Cosy Homes in Lancashire has secured a funding pot to help residents make their homes more energy efficient.

The scheme - Home Upgrade Grant Phase 2 (HUG2) - is for low-income households without gas central heating with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D to G.

The grants can help to cut the cost of energy bills by up to £200 a year, by improving insulation and installing lower cost clean eco-friendly heating.

Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded funding through HUG2 and know it will mean so much to our low-income residents who are often, and very sadly, too cold in their own homes during the winter months.”

The grants are designed for residents who:

  • don't have central heating installed
  • have a household income of less than £31,000
  • live in areas off the gas supply grid and rely on bottled gas or oil to heat their homes

Pendle Borough Council’s Head of Housing and Environmental Health, Sarah Whitwell, said: “The aim of the HUG2 grants is to help residents improve the warmth and comfort of their homes, whilst also reducing energy bills, carbon emissions and the levels of fuel poverty.

“Residents are being urged to check their eligibility and seek access to the grant as soon as possible; so the sooner they take action, the sooner they can be more comfortable in their home.”

Councillor Mohammad Ammer, Pendle Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing, Health and Wellbeing, added: “It’s important we look after our residents’ health and wellbeing during the cold, winter months and this scheme will help those in need.

“So I’m urging those people who qualify for this help will take advantage of it.”
