Immigration inspections

Before entry into this country can be allowed, the house you intend to live in has to be inspected to make sure it is safe and fit for human habitation. It also has to be checked for potential overcrowding. To do this, you have to apply for an immigration inspection. This costs £132

The inspection looks at:

  • general state of repair
  • kitchen and bathroom facilities
  • heating
  • ventilation
  • the potential for overcrowding

The property you intend to live in, must be owned or occupied only by yourself and your family. We cannot accept applications for rented accommodation if it is to be shared with members of another family.

The Immigration Authorities won't accept any letters that are more than 12 weeks old. If your letter is older than this, we have to carry out another full inspection before we can issue another letter. It's therefore very important that you don't apply for an inspection until you are ready to submit your full application to the right authorities.

We deal with applications strictly in date order. We cannot accommodate urgent requests. If your case is urgent, you need to arrange for a private inspection.

Immigration inspection letters

We can provide a copy of the Immigration Inspection letter if an inspection has been carried out within the last 12 weeks.

If the last inspection was longer than 12 weeks ago, we will need you to request a new immigration inspection.

Request a copy of an immigration inspection letter which has previously been sent to you. There is an admin fee of £13.75 for this.
