Available to disabled residents to assist with the provision of adaptations, in order to ensure that they have greater access to, and use of their homes.

If you think you may qualify for this grant, you must first contact the Social Services Directorate (see below), who will arrange for the assessment of the needs of the disabled person.

They put forward recommendations to the Council, who will then evaluate the reasonableness and practicality of providing the adaptations or alterations.

Adaptations

Disabled Facilities Grants, which may be awarded to owners or tenants, have a maximum value of £30,000 and can be used for such adaptations as:
  • Providing Ramps and step lifts for wheelchairs
  • Stair lifts and through floor lifts
  • Level and low access showers
  • Provision of a Ground floor bedroom/bathroom facilities.
  • Widening internal doorways
  • Provision of hoisting equipment

Unless for the benefit of a child, these grants are subject to Test of Financial Resources (see below)  to establish whether or not the applicant has a contribution to make towards the cost of the works. The test is prescribed by Government and the Council has no discretion over its use, or the results obtained from it.
