The Mayor of Pendle has already packed so much in to his diary since being elected in May.
In the last five months, Councillor Nadeem Ahmed has attended numerous events and engagements across Pendle.
A key focus has been raising awareness and funds for his three chosen charities - East Lancashire Down Syndrome Support Group, Pendleside Hospice and the NK Foundation, which helps deliver charitable projects across the world.
He said: “In my Mayor-Making speech in May, I promised to serve this borough with humility, dedication, compassion and pride.
“I have been delivering on this promise. I am absolutely dedicated to my Mayoral role in every sense of the word.
“A small taster of what I have done over the last few months includes officially opening the Home-Start in East Lancashire Family Fun Day, which was a fundraiser for Home-Start to support local families.
“I visited Pendle Community High School and College’s Vocation Education Centre and Café.
“The aim of the centre and café is to offer a welcoming environment where students can gain real-world experience and showcase their talents.
“Events have included attending Lancashire Fire and Rescue’s King’s Trust Community Project Handover; Eid in the Park Festival; Colne Grand Prix; Colne Gala; Armed Forces Day flag raising; Burnley, Pendle & Rossendale Sea Cadets Awards Evening and AGM; Pendle Festival of Culture and Pendle Business Awards.
“I also attended Bancroft Mill Steaming Day; celebrations to mark 100 years of Colne Dramatic Society; Trawden Agricultural Show; presented certificates to Barrowford In Bloom Environmental Group; attended the annual procession from Ghausia Mosque; Sunday church services in Newchurch, Higherford, Barrowford and Fence; Nelson Food Festival; the 100th Anniversary of Foulridge War Memorial and took part in Mayoral visits to the Armed Forces Support Group and the new Pendle Police Station.
“I was honoured and proud to showcase Pendle to civic heads from across Lancashire, including Pendle Heritage Centre in Barrowford and the beautiful surrounding villages of Fence, Spenbrook, Newchurch, Barley and Roughlee.
“Last month I organised and took part in a sponsored walk up Pendle Hill to raise money for my three chosen charities. It was challenging, but a fantastic day walking from Nelson Town Hall to the summit of Pendle Hill and back.
“I look forward to attending many more events and engagements in the months to come.”
