Pendle is set to receive £220,000 through the Government's Good Food Neighbourhoods programme, helping improve access to healthy, affordable food for local residents.
Almost £10m is being provided to 45 councils in England to help families and communities who are struggling financially.
The programme targets areas with the highest levels of deprivation and aims to make healthy food more accessible and affordable for those who need it most.
Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “We’re delighted to be awarded this funding.
"It will strengthen the work already taking place across the borough to support residents experiencing financial hardship and improve access to affordable, nutritious food.
"The funding will help us build on existing initiatives delivered through Pendle's existing programmes such as the Crisis and Resilience Fund and our Holiday Activities and Food programme, which provides children and young people with healthy meals alongside enriching activities.
"Most importantly, it will help us to continue to tackle childhood obesity and reduce health inequalities, giving more families the opportunity to make healthier choices."
Councillor Mohammad Hanif, Pendle Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Finance, Health and Leisure Services, added: “This funding provides an exciting opportunity to expand the work we're already doing to create healthier food environments across Pendle.
"We're working with local takeaways, cafés and mobile food businesses to encourage healthier menu choices, while promoting healthy eating and lifestyle habits through our Recipe 4 Health scheme.
"The Good Food Neighbourhoods programme will help us go further by making healthy, affordable food more readily available and easier for families to choose."
