The plans were approved by members of the Colne and District Committee last Thursday.

The food outlet, with parking spaces for 176 vehicles, a servicing area and landscaping, will be constructed on Whitewalls Drive, at the side of the recently built services at Junction 14 of the M65.

Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council said: “This is great news and we welcome this new addition to Pendle.

“It will bring jobs to the area, increase the choice for shoppers, reduce the need for residents to shop outside Pendle, increase the number of visitors to Colne and have a positive impact on nearby businesses.”

The plans were approved with a list of conditions, including:

  • To protect nearby residents from noise disturbance, no deliveries, collections, servicing or waste collections involving HGVs will take place outside the hours of 6am and 11pm on any day
  • An acoustic fence will be erected to ensure an acceptable level of privacy for nearby residents
  • External lighting will be installed and operated with the interests of nearby residents in mind
  • The materials for the external walls will be approved by Pendle Borough Council
  • Development will not begin until a Construction Surface Water Management Plan has been approved by Pendle Borough Council to ensure the development has satisfactory arrangements in place for the disposal of surface water during all construction phases
  • Two new bus stops will be installed on Whitewalls Drive

Councillor Mahmood added: “There is a long list of conditions, because even though this is very exciting news for Pendle residents and visitors, we want to make sure we take the feelings of the nearby neighbours into consideration.”
