Nelson park bridge gets a facelift

The bridge over the lake at Victoria Park in Nelson has been refurbished.

It is the final parks scheme to be completed as part of the Healthy Town strand of the Nelson Town Deal project.
With the help of Government funding, over the last three years, a lot of work has taken place in Nelson’s three parks – Marsden, Victoria and Walverden – to improve and update them and make them better places for residents and visitors to exercise, play, enjoy the outdoors and spend quality time with their families.
The bridge refurbishment work includes the replacement of the existing aged timber flooring with non-slip decking; the handrails being repainted and the surrounding stonework cleaned; giving the bridge a fresh and modern look whilst ensuring public safety for many years to come.
Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council and Nelson Town Deal board member, said: “The bridge looks so much better and has been done just at the right time as we go into the summer months when people will be using the park more.
“It is well used as part of a circular walk around the park, in such a lovely setting and links one part of the park to the other on the Nelson/Barrowford border.
“This is the final parks scheme to be completed as part of the Nelson Town Deal project.
“We have seen some amazing transformations in Nelson’s three parks with the Government funding we were allocated, including new playgrounds at all three parks, a lakeside shelter in Victoria Park, a pump track at Marsden Park and refurbished tennis courts at Marsden Park, as well as the improvements to this bridge in Victoria Park.”
Stephen Barnes, Chair of the Nelson Town Deal, added: “We are very grateful for this funding which has allowed us to make these necessary improvements to Nelson’s parks.
“They are a great asset to help with the health and wellbeing of both residents and visitors who use the facilities and enable them to enjoy a more active lifestyle.”
