Council’s Leader gets behind England at the World Cup

The Leader of Pendle Borough Council, Councillor Asjad Mahmood, is backing England as the national team begin its World Cup journey.
Speaking ahead of England’s opening match, Councillor Mahmood, said: “The World Cup is a fantastic opportunity to bring communities together and celebrate a shared love of football.
“I know many residents will be following England’s journey closely, and I would like to wish the team every success in the tournament.
“Major sporting events create a real sense of pride, excitement and unity.
“Whether you’re watching with family, friends, or fellow supporters in one of our local venues, I hope everyone enjoys the occasion.”
Pendle Borough Council is encouraging residents to enjoy the matches responsibly while supporting local businesses and community events taking place during the competition.
Councillor Dorothy Lord, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, added: “We want everyone to enjoy the tournament, but it’s important that we do so responsibly.
“Please respect others - by celebrating safely and considerately, we can ensure everyone enjoys the World Cup and the positive community spirit it brings."
