The Nelson Pride in Place Board is inviting applications for projects which support the ongoing regeneration of the town, strengthening communities and quality of life for everyone who lives and works

This is a special, time-limited call for projects to make the most of the remaining funding as year one of this ambitious 10-year programme comes to a close.

The Board is seeking projects which can get started and make a real impact quickly and is particularly keen to hear from organisations which can:

  • deliver visible change in the short-term
  • help bring people together and strengthen community pride
  • support the early priorities of the Nelson Pride in Place programme.

A total of £107,000 is available - £78,000 for capital projects and £29,000 for revenue projects.

Funding will be awarded for projects which will delivered over a maximum of 12 months and applications need to be submitted by Sunday 28 June.

Nelson Pride in Place is a community-led programme designed to empower local people to shape and deliver projects that matter most to their neighbourhoods.

It focuses on three core objectives - stronger communities, thriving places and helping local people take back control.

Through engagement with residents and stakeholders, four key priority areas have been identified:

  • Regeneration, High Streets and Heritage
  • Safety and Security
  • Work, Productivity and Skills
  • Cohesion

Claire Bennett, CEO of Positive Action in the Community and Chair of the Nelson Pride in Place Board, said: "Local organisations play a vital role in making Nelson a great place to live, work and visit.

“By working together, we can help build pride in our town and create lasting benefits for residents.

"While the current funding available is modest, we know that small grants can often have a big impact.

“We’re encouraging eligible organisations to apply and tell us how their project will benefit the community, aligning with the priorities of the Pride in Place programme.”

The Nelson Pride in Place Board is made up of local community members, including voluntary and faith sectors, police, health, businesses and council representatives.

Its 10-year vision is to create a thriving, inclusive and forward-looking town, known for its strong sense of community, vibrant economy and welcoming environment for residents, businesses and visitors.

Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “Applications are welcome from £500 upwards, and organisations are encouraged to apply for an amount that is proportionate to the size and scope of their project.

“You do not need to apply for the full amount of your project - you can apply for an amount which enhances an ongoing project.”

Projects should demonstrate how they will contribute to one or more of the Nelson Pride in Place priorities and deliver clear benefits for local people.

A further funding opportunity will be launched later this summer for larger-scale projects, when organisations will be able to apply for funding for projects of up to three years.

There may be opportunities for continued or extended funding beyond this period, depending on the ongoing delivery and longevity of the Pride in Place programme.

Up to £4.9m is available for capital projects and up to £800,000 for revenue over the initial three-year period, with further funding expected to be available for the remaining lifespan of the programme.

Notes to editors

Nelson is benefitting from £20m of investment over the next decade through the Government’s Pride in Place programme,

The funding will support initiatives that can make a positive impact in local neighbourhoods, bring people together and help deliver the ambitions identified by residents through the Nelson Pride in Place Regeneration Plan.
