A Nelson food business owner has been fined for poor food safety and hygiene offences.
Mr Munir Ahmed, who owns Samosa Place on Leeds Road, Nelson, was fined a total of £1,850 after pleading guilty to seven charges under the Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013, when he appeared at Burnley Magistrates’ Court.
The business has subsequently ceased trading.
Mr Ahmed failed to ensure that:
- the premises were kept clean
- food was protected against the risk of contamination
- records critical to food safety were maintained and monitored
- food safety procedures were in place, implemented and maintained
- food handlers were trained
- protection was provided against pests
Also, high risk food was kept at a temperature likely to support the growth of food poisoning bacteria.
Mr Ahmed was fined £250 and ordered to pay £1,500 costs, plus a £100 victim surcharge.
Emma Barker, Legal Services Manager, prosecuting for Pendle Borough Council, said:
“Businesses which do not operate within the food safety legislations will not be tolerated.
“It’s vitally important that we protect customers from businesses which put people’s health at risk.
“Our Environmental Health team works hard to ensure the public’s safety; and is on hand to give businesses the advice they need to ensure they are providing the best possible service.”
