Colne Market Hall set to reopen this spring

The transformation of Colne Market Hall is nearing completion, with work to the front of the building almost finished and a vibrant new outdoor space ready to welcome visitors.

High-quality natural stone has been laid to create a seamless open-air extension to the market, providing a flexible setting for outdoor markets, pop-up events and community activities.

Colne Market new pacing

The Colne coat of arms has been inset into a new feature planter celebrating the town’s heritage and the historic market cross will be carefully cleaned.

Councillor David Whipp, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “Brewers Contractors have worked incredibly hard, and we’re delighted that the new outside area has been completed almost a month ahead of schedule.

“This is fantastic news as we prepare to reopen the transformed market on Friday 1 May.

“As well as hosting pop-up markets and events, the new outdoor area will feature tables and chairs for visitors to the food hall who want to eat and drink al fresco.”

The transformation of the market is a key part of reinvigorating Colne to attract more people into the town centre, boosting the day and night-time economy.

Barnfield Construction officially handed the keys back to the Council this week, marking the completion of the major refurbishment programme.

Market Quarter Group (MQG), which has a proven track record of market hall regeneration with expertise in food and drink courts, including the highly successful Congleton Market Quarter in Cheshire, will oversee the food and drink offering.

Ged Lynch, Head of Food and Beverage at MQG, said: “We are incredibly proud to be bringing Colne Market Hall to life and to be contributing to the next chapter of the town’s story.

“The new Market Hall will complement existing market traders with six independent food and drink operators within a vibrant communal setting, alongside a year-round programme of events and community activity.

“We are excited to open the doors and to see the space become what markets have always been at their best - places where both community and local economy thrive.”

Councillor Whipp added: “We’re very much looking forward to reopening the new Market Hall and welcoming traders and visitors back to this revitalised space at the heart of our town.

“It will be a vital part of Colne’s future as a thriving market town.”

Existing market traders will continue to pay their current rent for the first 18 months after moving back into the modernised Market Hall. Rents will be reviewed at the end of that period.
