Projects put forward for Pride in Place Impact Fund

Towns and villages across Pendle are set to benefit from a share of £1.5m from the Government’s Pride in Place Impact Fund.
The funding is designed to revitalise high streets and public spaces, strengthen community facilities and restore neighbourhood pride.
Projects have now been recommended in Colne and district, Earby, Barnoldswick, Barrowford and Pendleside and Brierfield.
Nelson has separately received £20m over the next 10 years so will not receive additional funding from this scheme.
Councillor David Whipp, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “This funding is fantastic news.
“It means we can invest in towns and parishes that haven't benefited from previous funding streams targeted at specific areas.
“The Council's Area Committees and local Town and Parish Councils were invited to put forward projects that meet the Fund's objectives.
“We’re now asking local people to review the proposed projects and share their views.
“If additional funding becomes available, we’d also like to know what other schemes people would like to see delivered.
“Although filling potholes may top many people’s priorities, that’s not something we’re able to do with this funding.”
In Barnoldswick projects include extending Letcliffe Park’s Sculpture Trail and improving paving at Salterforth’s War Memorial.
Barrowford and Pendleside’s projects include replacement of play equipment for older children in Memorial Park and creating new raised garden beds and planters in Roughlee.
In Brierfield enhancing the public approaches between Beatie Street and the town square has been put forward. And in Colne and district, restoring Colne Town Hall’s clock and resurfacing the play area in Foulridge have been proposed.
Finally, in Earby suggestions include, proper seats to be installed at Earby Bus Station shelter and street furniture to be repainted along Victoria Road, Water Street and Colne Road.
The short survey and full list of projects for each area is available on Pendle Borough Council’s website www.pendle.gov.uk/pendlepip
Proposals must fall within one of three objectives:
- Community spaces - creating, extending, improving or refurbishing existing community facilities and enabling community organisations to take control or ownership of underused but valued local assets.
- Public spaces - enhancing the physical environment in public spaces such as new or improved green spaces or public squares, improved outdoor play, sports and leisure spaces, installing street furniture, public art or wayfinding.
- High street and town centre revitalisation - making areas more attractive and welcoming places such as shop frontage improvements, adaptations that bring premises back into use, streetscape improvements, public art, trails and wayfinding, and creating or improving the infrastructure for regular markets.
All projects will be completed by March 2027.
Councillor Whipp added: “The Pride in Place Impact Fund will help us to a fair and balanced approach to investment in Pendle, supporting communities right across the borough.”
