The hub will provide the community with access to these services while Cash Access UK work to progress the permanent location for the banking hub.

Open Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm, the hub provides a shared community banking facility as many have closed in the town.

Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Deputy Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “I’m delighted that a banking hub has opened in Nelson.

“It will provide an essential service to local people, particularly for those who want face-to-face contact with banking staff.

“It supports the Council’s vision of creating a vibrant and welcoming town centre through its regeneration work, which includes demolishing Pendle Rise shopping centre and creating a new retail complex.”

Cash Access UK is funded by major UK banks and has a network of hubs across the country.

Operated by the Post Office, customers of all major banks and building societies can:

  • pay in cash (notes and coins) and cheques
  • withdraw cash (notes and coins)
  • check your balance
  • pay utility bills
  • top up your gas and electricity
  • access change-giving services (for registered businesses)

For more complicated queries, a community banker service gives customers the opportunity to speak to someone from their bank.

Currently a community banker from Barclays is available on Wednesdays and NatWest on Thursdays. More banks will be joining the hub soon.
