Thousands of people in Pendle registered to vote by post are being advised to renew their postal vote soon because of a change to the law.

Letters will be landing on doormats across the borough and postal voters will be able to complete a paper copy or reapply online.

Dean Langton, Chief Executive and Returning Officer for Pendle Borough Council, said: “Following changes introduced by the Elections Act 2022, all postal voters must now reapply for their postal vote every three years.

“This change affects around 10,000 people in Pendle who will need to reapply by Saturday 31st January 2026 to continue voting by post in elections from 2026.

“If you have a postal vote and are voting in the Barnoldswick Ward by-election you can still vote this way but remember to reapply for your postal vote by the deadline.”

All postal vote applicants must now provide additional information including their National Insurance number and an up-to-date sample of their signature as part of their application.

Andrea Mullin, Elections and Registration Manager for Pendle Borough Council, added: “Anyone who doesn’t renew their postal vote by the deadline will need to vote in person at their polling station until they submit a new postal vote application.”
