Earby cafe receives Recipe 4 Health Bronze Award

Morgan's Café in Earby has received a Recipe 4 Health Bronze Award for serving healthy food to its customers.

The Recipe 4 Health scheme – run by Lancashire County Council’s Trading Standards Team, in partnership with Pendle Borough Council - recognises food businesses which offers healthier eating choices and considers environmental issues and social responsibility.

Councillor David Whipp, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “In a bid to help improve health and wellbeing among people in Pendle, we are encouraging - and offering support – to local catering businesses through the Recipe 4 Health scheme.

“Morgan’s Café serves very appetising food and it's great to see them receive this award.”

Local food takeaways, cafés and sandwich shops with a Food Hygiene Rating of three stars or over can apply to join the Recipe 4 Health Scheme.

There are three levels for the award – bronze, silver and gold. Businesses must start with bronze and work their way up to gold.

Councillor Mohammad Hanif, Pendle Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Health and Leisure Services, added: “It is very important that we try to encourage people to eat healthily and by helping our local eating establishments to provide healthy options, we are one step closer.”

Jamal Dermott, from Lancashire County Council, who is helping to expand the scheme in Pendle said: “We are urging food businesses to sign up to the scheme and make Pendle a healthier place – and asking people to please support these businesses by making healthier choices when buying food, drinks and takeaways.”
