From the start of his mayoral year in May, The Mayor of Pendle has been working at the heart of the community.

During his first month in office, Councillor Mohammad Ammer was given a tour of Pendle YES Hub in Nelson and was very impressed by the fantastic initiative for 16 – 24-year-olds in Pendle.
He said: “This one-stop shop to help young people access training, work placements, learning and skills development, as well as health and wellbeing activities, is fantastic.
“It plays a very important role in supporting young people in overcoming individual barriers and building confidence to help them secure employment.
“The work carried out at the YES Hub also demonstrates the importance of collaborating with other local organisations and service providers to achieve amazing results, which can be seen in the scores of young people who have benefitted from the facility.”
The first four months of the Mayor’s term of office have been very varied and constructive.
Mayoral engagements undertaken range from unveiling a new defibrillator at Hodge House Community Centre and welcoming guests at Pendle Business Awards, to attending Year 6’s Graduation at Walverden Primary School and Trawden Agricultural Show.
This month Councillor Ammer has supported various 80th Anniversary VJ Day events in the borough, including attending an exhibition at Marsden Park Café and joining members of Pendle’s Armed Forces Support Group for a commemorative service at St. Paul’s Church in Nelson.
The Mayor also represented Pendle at a VJ Day Service at Lancaster Castle hosted by the Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire.
Councillor Ammer added: “I am thoroughly enjoying my time as Mayor, meeting residents and members of the local community, seeing the wonderful work that is being done throughout the borough and raising money for my chosen charities.
“I believe it is essential that we shine a light on those in our community who are most vulnerable and in need of support and that is why I have chosen to champion two outstanding causes during my mayoral year - Derian House Children’s Hospice, which provides care and comfort to children with life-limiting conditions and support for their families, and Samaritans of Pendle, Burnley, Craven and Rossendale.”
