Pendle Borough Council is backing the Great British Spring Clean campaign this month and encouraging residents to take part.

Spring Clean 2025

Back for its 10th year, the Great British Spring Clean is the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign, with Keep Britain Tidy on a mission to improve public places, stop littering and educate future generations about waste.

This year, the big clean-up takes place from Friday, 21 March through to Sunday, 6 April.

Individuals, community groups, schools and businesses can all organise their own events during these two weeks in their chosen areas.

Pendle Borough Council will lend litter bags, litter pickers and gloves to those who want to take part in the campaign - and collect all the litter at the end of each event.

Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “Keep Britain Tidy is asking people to be part of the litter pick, and we’re keen to do our bit here in Pendle!

“We’re urging individuals, schools, organisations and local businesses to sign up and make a real difference.

“We need support from local people if we’re to live in a clean, litter-free Pendle we can all be proud of.

“We have a fantastic community spirit and we need as many volunteers as we can get during this national spring clean.”

Councillor Zafar Ali, the Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment and Climate Change, added: “Litter picking is a simple action that anyone can do. It makes an immediate and visible difference to the environment where we live, work and play.

“If you want to help protect our wildlife and make Pendle a cleaner place, join the Great British Spring Clean and pledge to pick up a bag – or more.”

Anyone organising a litter picking event should register with Pendle Borough Council - email Michelle Cooney – michelle.cooney@pendle.gov.uk who can also help with equipment and risk assessments.
