A Nelson business has received a grant of £59,000 from the Nelson Town Deal.

Clarkson Coatings

Clarkson Coatings Ltd, on Lomeshaye Industrial Estate, has used the funds from the Business Resilience and Growth Project from Pendle Borough Council to buy a new laminator and create nine new full-time jobs.

The company is a processor and supplier of flame-retardant treatments for upholstery fabrics.

Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, the Council’s Portfolio Holder for Growth and Regeneration and Nelson Town Deal board member, said: “The Business Resilience and Growth Project is one of seven within the £25m Nelson Town Deal and is designed to promote sustainable growth in the area, create jobs and provide new opportunities for local people.

“It is wonderful to see a local company thriving and we are delighted to be able to support the company’s goals.

“The Nelson Town Deal is a once in a generation opportunity for Nelson, and this project will help to make a big difference for a more sustainable economy.”

Gareth Darby, Operations Manager at Clarkson Coatings Ltd, said: “Clarkson Coatings Ltd is consistently enhancing its products through innovation in lamination for the upholstery, construction and healthcare markets.

“The company's efforts to diversify, improve sustainability and expand into new markets would have faced significant delays without the funding support from Pendle Borough Council, provided through the grant.

“Pendle Borough Council has not only assisted us with a substantial financial investment in a new lamination machine, but they have also supported us throughout the entire funding process. This support has helped safeguard jobs and drive new business opportunities.”

Mike Williams, Economic Development Officer at Pendle Borough Council, added: “The Business Resilience and Growth Project has been designed to provide grants of up to £100,000 per eligible business, with companies being able to match the funding from the Nelson Town Deal.

“What Clarkson Coatings Ltd has used the grant for perfectly showcases the type of projects the grant programme can support.”
