Nelson Long Term Town Plan

The deadline to submit Nelson’s Long Term Town Plan has been delayed by the new Government.
Alex Norris MP, Minister for Local Growth, has written to all Long Term Town Boards to say the submission date for Investment Plans is no longer 1 August with a revised date to be announced.

Nelson is one of 75 towns to have been awarded funding worth £20m over the next 10 years to drive ambitious regeneration plans.
Claire Bennett, CEO of Positive Action in the Community and Chair of Nelson Long Term Town Plan Board, said:
“Nelson’s Long Term Plan provides the local community with a significant opportunity to be the real driving force in tackling issues such as reviving the high street, tackling anti-social behaviour and improving transport and connectivity.
“It’s important that we continue to develop our Investment Plan so that it’s ready for the Government’s new deadline.”
Earlier this year, residents, businesses and stakeholders were invited to have their say on how the money should be spent.
Suggestions included:
- breathe new life into vacant and historic buildings and revitalise urban spaces
- make the town centre a place where all communities can gather
- create a town centre cafe culture
- improve the retail and market offer
- strengthen community spirit and make the town centre safer.
Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, added: “Through Nelson Long Term Plan we can build on the good work which is already underway to transform Nelson through the Town Deal.”
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government will confirm the next steps and the revised deadline in due course.
