Pendle Rise is still open for business

Nelson town centre shoppers are being reminded that Pendle Rise shopping centre is still open for business.
Pendle Borough Council took ownership of the dated 1960s Centre in June as part of its plans to revitalise the town.

Council Leader Councillor Asjad Mahmood said: “Pendle Rise shopping centre was bought using Nelson Town Deal funding.
“It’s key to our ambitious plans of redeveloping the town centre and maximising benefits to the local area. We are firmly looking to the future.
“Our plan is to demolish Pendle Rise and redevelop the site but for now it’s still open for business!”
There are 15 businesses* in Pendle Rise including Specsavers, Greggs, Nelson Nutrition Health Store, Mobile Doctor, Allsorts, Lancashire Furniture and Shoe Island.
Neil Rockett, of Nelson Nutrition Health Store and a member of the Nelson Town Deal Board, said: “We’re still trading and we need more people coming in. All the retailers in Pendle Rise offer a great service.
“We are committed to Nelson and the future plans for the Pendle Rise project - it will benefit the whole community.”
Nadeem Butt, owner of Mobile Doctor which sells mobile phones and accessories, added: "Help us keep the Centre alive by visiting us."
The Council is supporting all Pendle Rise retailers through this unsettling time and is meeting with traders individually.
It aims to find new shop units in Nelson town centre for everyone who wants to continue in the town.
The vision to re-develop the site stems from extensive public consultation carried out as part of the Nelson Masterplan.
Most people who gave their views wanted to see Pendle Rise tackled as a priority.
A joint venture was launched in 2022 with Penbrook, a partnership between Pendle Borough Council and Brookhouse, to oversee the development.
Brookhouse is an expert in retail centre developments.
Planning consent was granted in 2023. Plans include developing a major new supermarket, nine modern retail units with attractive frontages, car parking and landscaping.
The Council has appointed Beddows to run the Centre pending demolition.
