Pendle residents are being encouraged to celebrate the borough’s parks as part of Love Parks Week from 26 July to 4 August.

Love Parks is an annual national campaign run by Keep Britain Tidy and is an opportunity for the public to celebrate and support the best of their greenspaces.

Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “We have some fantastic parks and greenspaces in Pendle which we are very proud of, and we are asking residents to make a special effort to visit and appreciate them during this week.

“Most of our parks have been awarded a prestigious Green Flag and we are currently improving a number of them in Nelson with funding through the Healthy Town strand of the Nelson Town Deal project.”

Phil Riley, the Council’s Green Spaces Manager, added: “Keep Britain Tidy’s Love Parks campaign is an opportunity for everyone to celebrate, appreciate and recognise the value of their parks and greenspaces.

“During this dedicated week, we are encouraging people to get out and enjoy their local park – whether it’s to play with our children, somewhere to exercise, a place to walk our dogs or a meeting point for picnics with friends.”

Councillor Zafar Ali, the Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment and Climate, said: “Through numerous exercise opportunities and activities, parks improve our health and wellbeing.

“They also play a central role in our communities and using parks helps protect them for future generations.

“So, during this week of putting the spotlight on our parks, we want people who may not think parks are for them, to give their local greenspace a visit!”
