The second phase of engagement for Nelson’s Long Term Plan is now underway and people who visit, live and work in the area are being urged to have their say.

Nelson

Nelson is one of 75 towns to have been awarded funding worth £20m over the next 10 years to drive ambitious regeneration plans.

It prioritises issues that matter to local people, including high streets, heritage and regeneration, transport and connectivity and safety and security.

Following a consultation earlier this year, where residents, businesses and stakeholders were invited to have their say on how the money should be spent, these are some of the suggestions made:

  • Breathe new life into vacant and historic buildings and revitalise urban spaces.
  • Make the town centre a place where all communities can gather.
  • Create a town centre cafe culture.
  • Improve the retail and market offer.
  • Strengthen community spirit and make the town centre safer.

Claire Bennett, CEO of Positive Action in the Community and Chair of Nelson Long Term Plan Board, said: “Thank you to everyone who took part in the first phase and shared their thoughts with us.

“It is really important that residents and visitors to Nelson feel heard and are part of this plan.

“Please take this opportunity to look at the recommendations that we’ve received from the community and share your thoughts with us.

“These ideas can then be developed further within the first three-year investment plan.”

You can have your say:

The second stage of the consultation ends on Friday 28 June at 5pm.

All responses will be analysed and included in an Investment Plan which will be submitted to the Government by 1 August 2024.

Claire stressed: “Nelson’s Long Term Plan provides us with a significant opportunity for the community of Nelson to be the real driving force in tackling issues such as reviving the high street, anti-social behaviour and improving transport and connectivity.”

Rose Rouse, Chief Executive of Pendle Borough Council, added: “We’ve received a number of really great ideas for the town.

“Please take this opportunity to comment on these recommendations which aim to make Nelson a better place in which to live, work and socialise.”
