Pendle Borough Council’s political composition

Pendle Borough Council’s political composition has changed following the resignation of its Labour councillors from the Labour party.

Nelson Town HallAll 10 councillors have formed an Independent Group.

The Council is now a shared administration with the Independent Group and Liberal Democrat Party.

Councillor Asjad Mahmood (Independent Group) remains as Council Leader and Councillor David Whipp (Liberal Democrat Party) as Deputy Leader.

Political composition (33 councillors across 12 wards):

  • Conservative Party: 13 councillors
  • Independent Group: 10 councillors
  • Liberat Democrat Party: 7 councillors
  • Independent councillor: 2 councillors

There is 1 vacant seat in Earby and Coates ward.
