Help with low-cost energy saving measures

A ‘Little Van of Warm’ is driving into Pendle installing low-cost energy saving measures to help residents stay cosy.

The initiative is being carried out by Cosy Homes in Lancashire.

The service provides a whole range of low-cost measures, including the installation of LED light bulbs, hot water tank jackets, draught-proofing, draught excluders and radiator panels.

Whilst assessors are in your home, they can carry out a quick inspection of your property to see if it would benefit from larger measures, such as loft insulation, and refer you to any appropriate schemes.

Pendle Borough Council’s Head of Housing and Environmental Health, Sarah Whitwell, said: “The aim of this initiative is to help residents improve the warmth and comfort of their homes, whilst also reducing energy bills, carbon emissions and the levels of fuel poverty.

“Residents are being urged to check their eligibility and seek access to these energy saving measures as soon as possible; so the sooner they take action, the sooner they can be more comfortable in their home.”

You qualify if your household income is less than £31,000 per year (consideration will be given if your income is above this threshold in exceptional circumstances, such as long-term health conditions exacerbated by living in a cold home).

Councillor Mohammad Ammer, Pendle Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing, Health and Wellbeing, added: “It’s important we look after our residents’ health and wellbeing and this scheme will help those in need.

“So I’m urging those people who qualify for this help to take advantage of it.”
