But there is still time for you to add your views.

You have until 5pm on Friday 18 August to comment on this blueprint for future development in Pendle.

As part of an eight-week public consultation, Pendle Borough Council officers spent two weeks at various locations throughout the borough, speaking to residents and showing them the draft plan.

It has been thoughtfully considered in a bid to protect Pendle’s history, heritage and natural environment, whilst still providing the development opportunities needed for the homes and jobs people need in the borough.

Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, explained: “This will be the document the Council will use to guide development and growth in the borough up to 2040.

“It will be used by Pendle’s Planning Officers to decide whether to approve or refuse applications for planning permission.

“Our vision establishes what we would like Pendle to look like by 2040 and we have come up with a number of strategic objectives to help us achieve this vision.”

The draft plan will be made up of almost 60 policies which will give applicants and developers information about the design features that will be expected of them, including making sure traditional features are retained in conservation areas.

Neil Watson, Assistant Director: Planning, Building Control and Regulatory Services, said: “This is a very important planning document that will take us up to 2040 and your views are very important to us.

“All the comments we receive during the consultation will be carefully considered before our final draft is published.”

Councillor Tom Whipp, Executive Portfolio Holder for Planning, added: “The purpose of the Local Plan is to make Pendle a better place for residents and businesses, so it’s important that we work together to get it right.

“Our key challenge is balancing the need to provide new homes and employment opportunities with the need to protect the environment.”
