Things are starting to take shape at numerous locations in Colne with funding from Round One of the Government’s Levelling Up Fund.

Putting the town in the spotlight
- Colne market hall redevelopment
- New heritage Quarter
- three theatres are being modernised

Work has already started on Colne’s newly formed Heritage Quarter. A total of £3,487,000 has been awarded to The Muni Theatre, Pendle Hippodrome and the Little Theatre for much-needed upgrades and modernisation.

A further £3m of Levelling Up funding has been awarded to Colne Market Hall, which will be spent on a significant redevelopment, creating improved space for businesses and housing for town centre living.

You can keep up-to-date as work progresses at each of the facilities here on a dedicated website: colnelevellingup.co.uk

You will find information, photographs and videos of the on-going work, as well as interviews with those involved.

You can also find out about the current market traders and where they are going to be housed during the transformation of Colne Market Hall.

The impact of the Levelling Up funding will result in new and upgraded cultural facilities within the heart of Colne for the local community, residents and visitors, allowing the three individual venues to offer an enhanced programme of events and activities.

Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “Colne is a great town renowned for culture, entertainment and for its independent shops and bars. This major investment will really give the town a boost and attract even more people to Pendle.

“It’s great to see work has already started on these projects, which will all make a huge difference to the town.

“And it’s great we have this website so that residents can keep up-to-date with the progress and look forward to seeing the changes and using the facilities once they are finished.”

The Muni Theatre has been allocated £1,563,300 for a major refurbishment of all of the theatre, including new roofing and windows, along with new heating and lighting to improve energy efficiency that will deliver reduced carbon emissions.

Pendle Hippodrome has received £1,661,100, which will enable the refurbishment and alterations to the ground floor and first floor of the former Derby Arms public house, with the installation of passenger lifts and the redevelopment of the existing theatre’s foyer, box office and toilet areas.

Levelling Up funds of £262,500 will enable Colne Dramatic Society to future-proof The Little Theatre, with a project incorporating a single storey extension with wheelchair access and facilities, along with a modern foyer, additional toilets, a green room and kitchen/bar.

Councillor David Whipp, Deputy Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “Colne Market Hall will be extensively remodelled, providing traders with a fantastic new space.

“There will be an attractive open area to the front and side of the market to allow more space for events, and there will be 11 residential flats on the first floor.”
