Food Waste

A weekly food waste collection service is to be introduced from next April for all Pendle residents.

It is part of a new Government legislation which rules all councils in England must provide a weekly collection of food waste from all households for recycling or composting.

Residents will be required to separate their food waste from other waste and put it in a food waste bin for collection.

Each household will be provided with a 23-litre outdoor caddy and a 5-litre indoor caddy (see image below).

Pendle Borough Council will deliver the new collection service.

Distribution of the caddies to households will start at the beginning of February 2026 and be completed by the end of March; but residents are being urged not to start using the caddies before the official collection date at the beginning of April.

Details of collection dates will be in the new 2025/26 Recycling Calendars which will be distributed to all Pendle households next month.
