Ahead of the county council elections in May 2025, Lancashire County Council are raising awareness of the role of county councillors.

If you're considering becoming a councillor or want to find out more about the role of a councillor, Lancashire County Council are holding the following event:

Be a Councillor information evening Wednesday 5 February 2025, 6.00pm County Hall, Preston (entry from 5.30pm)

There will be an opportunity to find out more about the county council, the role of councillors, ask questions about the election process and informally speak with council officers about the support available.

Local elections

The Electoral Commission has guidance for anyone wanting to stand as a candidate at a local election

Most people stand under the banner of one of the main political parties and for information on how to do that you need to contact the party directly. It is also possible to stand as an Independent or, indeed, start a new party. 

The Electoral Commission oversees the election process and provides guidance on a number of issues including the right to vote and how to set up political parties.
