Daily walk around vehicle check
From 1st November 2025, a private hire or hackney carriage driver will be required to carry out a daily vehicle check of the vehicle they are driving at the start of each shift. The check must be carried out by a downloaded App. called Checkedsafe or a paper check.
The paper check sheet must be carried in the vehicle at all times and there must be at least seven days’ worth of checks in the vehicle.
Any driver who fails to have a paper check or record on the App. to confirm that before the start of their shift they had checked the condition of their vehicle will result in them having their licence suspended for a period of 2 weeks on the first occasion; 4 weeks on the second occasion and brought before the Taxi Licensing Committee to have their licence reviewed on the third occasion. This is over any rolling 2-year period.
The vehicle must comply with what was recorded on the paper or App.
Any driver being untruthful on the vehicle check record will result in them having their licence suspended for a period of 2 weeks on the first occasion; 4 weeks on the second occasion and brought before the Taxi Licensing Committee to have their licence reviewed on the third occasion. This is over any rolling 2-year period.

How to download the app
The app is ‘Checkedsafe’ and can be downloaded from Google Play or Apple.
- CheckedSafe will give each driver a 30-day free trial. After the 30-day trial the app will cost £1 per week for vehicle owners. (Drivers who don't own their vehicle do not have to pay.)
- Drivers need to register with CheckedSafe Pendle Borough Council - CheckedSafe Registration. This will take you to the registration page and the direct debit form if you own a vehicle.
- After registering, CheckedSafe will send you details of your username and password.
