Keighley Road Conservation Area
All councils have a legal duty to consider whether areas with special architectural or historic interest should be designated as conservation areas under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990. These areas are assessed using criteria set out by Historic England.
An independent appraisal of the Keighley Road area was undertaken by specialist conservation consultants to assess its historic and architectural significance. This was supported by a public consultation, giving residents and other interested parties the opportunity to share their views.
Following careful consideration of the appraisal and all consultation responses, Pendle Borough Council's Executive Committee determined that the Keighley Road area has special architectural and historic interest worthy of designation.
Keighley Road Conservation Area has now been formally designated under Section 69 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990.
We understand that residents and property owners may have questions about what conservation area status means and how it may affect future development. The information and guidance below explain the purpose of conservation areas and answer some of the most frequently asked questions.
