Brierfield and Reedley 10 Year Vision

In 2016 we agreed a 10 year vision for Brierfield and Reedley. The vision sets out how we will revitalise the area over the next decade. It is intended to guide activity, future investment and help support future bids for funding.

The Vision recognises the opportunity that the multi-million pound transformation of Brierfield Mill ( the Northlight project) brings to the town. It provides a physical framework, which focuses on maximising the benefit from the  Northlight project, as well as looking at ways the town can complement it. The vision document was approved at the Full Council meeting on 23 March 2016.

What's our vision?

To build on the strengths of Brierfield and Reedley to create a thriving and successful place that people can be proud of. This is an enhanced area known for its own varied and distinctive identity, its environmental quality and heritage  and which celebrates its cultural diversity.  Our vision is of a place that people aspire to live and work in, invest in and visit.

We'll work with local organisations, the community and our partners to put this vision into action.

Our five key priorities are:

Priority 1: Brierfield town centre enhancement

To improve the quality and image of the town centre environment, making it more attractive as place to shop, invest and visit. To attract public/ private sector investment and new uses for vacant buildings to support its role as a local centre and to enhance its heritage assets and townscape.

Priority 2 : Development sites and opportunities

To explore opportunities to get vacant brownfield sites and redundant buildings re-developed for future use.

Priority 3:  Place shaping and Image

To raise the profile and image of the town to a more positive one and create a distinctive identity. We want to encourage visitors and boost the visitor economy. We want to support the promotion of Northlight as an important new destination and a key part of the area's future.

Priority 4 : Physical connectivity and Townscape

To improve links between the town centre and Northlight. We want to improve the way Brierfield and Reedley look as you approach them. We want to improve the appearance and view of the streets and the environment around you, including quality improvements which are sympathetic to the heritage of the area.

Priority 5 : Housing and Green Assets

To continue to bring back into use the long term empty homes and improve the quality and range of the housing on offer. We want to improve Brierfield and Reedley as a place to live, by making the most of the area's green areas, canal and local countryside.
