POPs and WUDs

Upholstered items must be kept separate

Some items, such as sofas and padded chairs, must be collected and disposed of separately due to environmental regulations.

If your booking includes any of the following, please place them in a separate pile from your other items:

  • Highchair
  • Sofa bed
  • Sofa
  • Stool
  • Sun lounger
  • Armchair
  • Garden chair
  • Kitchen or dining chair
  • Office chair

Do not mix these items with other bulky waste, or they may not be collected.

Why do I have to do this?

Some items included in bulky waste collections, such as sofas and padded chairs, are classed as waste upholstered domestic seating (WUDs). These items may contain Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), which means they must be collected and disposed of separately from other waste.

This is a legal requirement and helps ensure items are handled safely and in line with environmental regulations.
