At the Annual Full Council meeting on Thursday 15 May 2025, the Mayor made a speech about his Mayoral year:

It is with the deepest sense of honour and responsibility that I accept the role of Mayor of Pendle.

I stand before you humbled by this privilege and mindful of the trust placed in me.

I pledge to be a Mayor for the whole of Pendle - committed to unity, understanding, and bringing together our wonderfully diverse communities through the platform of this office.

I begin by paying tribute to the memory of my late grandfather - a man whose wisdom, humility, and unwavering commitment to family and community continue to guide and inspire me every single day.

His example has shaped my values, and it is with him in my heart that I embrace this role - striving to serve with the same quiet dignity he so naturally embodied.

I also wish to express my deepest gratitude to my parents, whose sacrifices, encouragement, and values laid the foundation for everything I am today.

In particular, I thank my father for his steady support, tireless work ethic, and the strength of character he has instilled in me.

I carry his lessons with me into this role and throughout my life.

My heartfelt thanks to my wife, Ghulam Kibria, who will serve alongside me as Mayoress.

To my family and the residents of Marsden and Southfield Ward - thank you for your enduring support and belief in me over all these years

Your trust has brought me to this platform, and I will work hard to serve you, and the entire borough, with integrity, impartiality, and care.

I especially look forward to engaging with our schools, particularly our primary schools.

I warmly invite them to visit the Town Hall, to use the Council Chamber for debates and activities, and to see local democracy in action, in a way that is both educational and fun.

As Mayor, I believe it is essential that we shine a light on those in our community who are most vulnerable and in need of support.

I have chosen to champion two outstanding causes during my mayoral year.
