Committee Structure
Introduction
- The Council determines the main policies of the Council and sets the budget.
- An Executive, comprising the Council Leader and 6 other Councillors, is responsible for implementing Council policies and the budgets.
- The Scrutiny Management Committee, comprising 15 Councillors, oversee the work of the Executive and appoints individual panels from its membership to undertake specific reviews.
- Five Area Committees take decisions of a local nature, including functions delegated to them by the Executive and other non-executive functions.
- A Development Control Committee decides planning matters where significant policy or costs questions are involved.
- A Taxi Licensing Committee deals with taxi licensing and certain other licensing matters.
- A Licensing Committee oversees the functions of the Licensing Act 2003
- A Standards Committee promotes and monitors high standards of conduct by Councillors.
- The Accounts and Audit Committee reviews the Council's financial management in accordance with the Accountancy and Audit regulations within the Local Government Act 1996.
