Information

Heyhead Park was first awarded a Green Flag in 2009, and has maintained its flag ever since. The park is very open  with almost all of the park lawned with mature trees along the narrow paths.The park is used by residents as a shortcut for accessing various parts of the town as well as for events and recreational pursuits.

Disabled facilities

  • All paths are wheelchair friendly
  • Disabled toilets are available within the Bowling Pavilion (in season) 

Play area

There are eight pieces of equipment including two disability accessible cradles seats, and One wheelchair/pushchair friendly gate:

  • Junior: suitable for 5 to 14 year olds
  • Senior: suitable for 12 to 16 year olds

Harnesses can be obtained from the Parks and Recreation Services at Fleet Street, Nelson.

There is also an adventure play area, suitable for eight years plus, which has seven pieces of equipment.

Sports facilities

The sports facilities were refurbished in 2023.

The park has one tennis court, one MUGA and one kickabout.
