The latest round of Pendle Borough Council’s Household Support Fund has been launched and includes a cash payment to help residents cope with the cost of living.

All properties that were receiving Council Tax Support on 1 December 2022 will receive a voucher to claim a one-off £65 cash payment from the Post Office.

The remaining funds will continue to support local foodbanks so that they can provide food and hygiene products to Pendle households experiencing financial hardship.

Meanwhile, families who don’t qualify for a Household Support Fund payment may be able to get help with energy bills, prepayment fuel meter top ups or essential household items via Burnley and Pendle Citizens Advice.

Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “I’m delighted that the Government’s Household Support Fund has been extended once again so that we can continue to provide much-needed help to local people.

“The cost of living crisis is affecting us all and this will go some way to help ease financial pressures for those who most need it.”

Those who are eligible for the cash payment will receive a letter with a voucher from January. It will explain how to redeem the payment.

Households which received a cash payment from the Household Support Fund 2 will not receive a payment this time.

Councillor Ahmed stressed that letters are being sent out in batches so if you don’t receive your letter at the same time as a friend or neighbour, don’t worry.

The letters will include a unique barcode which can be scanned at any Post Office branch to claim the money. ID will need to be shown when claiming the payment.

To get an application form for energy support from Burnley and Pendle Citizens Advice, email household.supportfund@pendle.cabnet.org or call 01282 616750.

If anyone is worried about the cost of living, the Council’s virtual community support hub is an online directory of around 80 local, regional and national organisations.

Councillor Ahmed added: “We know that this is a challenging time and we want to make it easy for people to get the help they need.

“By visiting Pendle Community Support Hub on our website, you can find organisations which can help with things like accessing food and mental health and wellbeing support.
