Preparing for a Pest Control Visit

The preperation you need to complete depends on the pest that is being treated. All preperation should be completed shortly before your second visit.

Bedbugs

To ensure our pest control officer is able to carry out treatment please carry out the following advice prior to a treatment. If this guidance is not followed, our officer may be unable to administer treatment.

• Remove all sheets and bedding material, this will need to be sealed in a plastic bag to prevent further spreading of the infestation until they can be cleaned.
• Wash any clothing, bedding, or stuffed teddies which has been stored beneath beds, in dressers or draws near where bed bugs have been discovered. High heat will help to eliminate eggs therefore it is recommended to do a hot wash and dry at a high temperature (60OC).
• Place all clean fabrics in a fresh plastic bag and seal. It is advised to store any clean laundry in an unaffected room until after the treatment is completed as bed bugs can hide in fabrics.
• Remove all loose items from floors and closet floors, these will need to be laundered, disposed or placed in a sealed bag.
• All dressers, coffee tables, bookshelves etc. will need to have all items removed.
• All pets will need to be removed from the property during treatment.
• Vacuum all carpets.
• Remove any clutter such as boxes and bags.
• Turn off boiler and turn off or cover smoke detectors.
• Cover fish tanks and switch off the pump.

Do not move items into another residence during treatment; this may spread the infestation to another location.

Beds can be used as normal once the insecticide has dried.

Only the pest control officer may enter the room during treatment.

Fleas

Please ensure you follow these guidelines before the pest control officer arrives to administer the treatment.

• Remove all loose items from the floor areas of the rooms to be treated. To carry out a really effective treatment the pest control officer will need to get access to as much floor area as possible.
• Thoroughly vacuum all carpets and rugs and clean all carpet-free floor areas. Pay particular attention to areas where pets may sleep or where the sun may heat an area of the floor. Empty the vacuum cleaner directly into the dustbin or change the bag after cleaning.
• All pets will need removing from the residence during treatment. If it is not possible to remove aquariums due to their size, the air pump will need disconnecting and the top covered with a sealed plastic bag or sheet.
• All pet bedding will need to be washed thoroughly.
• Pets will need to be treated for fleas with approved formulation from the vets.

The pest control officer may not be able to carry out the treatment if these guidelines are not followed. Guidance for after treatment has been carried out:

• Do not enter any treated room for at least two hours or until the officer advises.
• To allow the insecticide time to work, do not vacuum carpets for at least 5 days.
• One treatment is usually sufficient to control the infestation as the products used carry on working in the days following the treatment. Fleas should gradually die off after coming into contact with the insecticide.
