More Pendle households are set to get financial support after councillors agreed how funding should be spent to help those most impacted by the cost of living crisis.

At last Thursday’s Policy and Resources Committee (21 July), Pendle Borough Council agreed its Energy Rebate Discretionary Scheme.

The Discretionary Scheme supports households which weren’t eligible for the initial £150 payment because their home wasn’t in Council Tax bands A-D.

  • A payment of £150 will be made to 84 households in bands E-H that were receiving Council Tax Support on 1 April 2022.
  •  A credit top up of £28 will be applied to the Council Tax accounts of 7, 840 households in bands A-D that were receiving Council Tax Support on 1 April 2022.

Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “Our scheme is very much in line with what other councils are doing locally and nationally and ensures that we’re helping those most in need.

“We received £232,000 from the Government to provide support to households not eligible for the initial payment or to give a top up payment to the most vulnerable in bands A-D.

“We’re delighted that we can support thousands of our residents who will be struggling financially as the cost of living bites by targeting the payments in this way.”
