Pendle Business Awards - here's our shortlist!

Pendle Council and Pendle Vision Board are delighted to unveil the 2016 Pendle Business Awards shortlist.

Councillor Mohammed Iqbal, Leader of Pendle Council, said: “A big, big thank you goes out to everyone who entered.
“This year we received 80 entries - the most to date - from companies of all shapes and sizes across Pendle.
“And I can tell you that we’re really excited to see more and more companies coming forward.”
Pendle Business Awards, jointly organised by Pendle Council and Pendle Vision Board, has fast become one of Lancashire’s most prestigious events in the business calendar.
It’s all about putting the spotlight on the borough’s businesses which are market leaders in their field but aren’t names automatically associated with the area.
And it's being supported by many local companies and organisations which are sponsoring the event, including Farmhouse Biscuits, Training 2000, Barnfield Construction, JD Engineering, Merc Aerospace, Nelson and Colne College, KM Business Solutions, Daisy Communications, Svenska Handelsbanken, Pendle Rise Shopping Centre and Printoff.
Dennis Mendoros, Chairman of Pendle Vision Board, added: “I was delighted, but not surprised, to hear that the calibre of applications was extremely strong this year.
“This year the Most Outstanding Business of the Year (micro) category was most popular with 16 entries, followed by Business Technology & Innovation of the Year and Rising Star of the Year which received 10 each.
“Our judges have had a difficult task whittling them down because everyone who has entered deserves recognition for their fantastic achievements.”
Chris Maden, currently working on a business assignment for Mitchell Interflex, was on the judging panel for Most Outstanding Business of the Year (medium/large).
After early retirement in 2005, Chris who has experience with Burberry, established his own company in Interim Management and Business Development.
Prior to this he held a range of director roles within the textile industry both in the UK and overseas.
He said: “I was delighted to join the judging panel to help shortlist this category.
“There were some very strong entries and we found it extremely difficult to choose three so we’ve shortlisted four companies.
“Those shortlisted all have a good understanding of the markets they’re in and appear to have great optimism for the future because of the investments they’re making or looking to make.”
Kevin Clark, Chief Executive of Enterprise Lancashire, was on the judging panel for Most Outstanding Business of the Year (small).
Kevin has more than 34 years’ business experience, ranging from self-employment to executive and non-executive directorships at various levels including public companies.
He currently manages Enterprise Lancashire as part of a group of companies providing business accommodation and business support, including start-up and growth mentoring services across Lancashire.
He said: “The judges had a really difficult task on their hands. There was an innovative and diverse mix of businesses this year which made it very interesting.
“Pendle businesses have got great ambition and they’re highly skilled in their sectors.
“Some right here on our doorstep are trading locally and globally and many have strong specialisms, including precision engineering and logistics.”
The ceremony is going to be held at the luxurious Fence Gate Inn on Thursday June 9.
Winners will once again receive the coveted Pendle trophy – an elegant glass and metal sculpture inspired by Pendle Hill. It will be engraved with the winner’s name and the award category.
The trophies have been designed and created by local company Merc Engineering.
