They were joined by Councillor Mohammed Iqbal, Leader of Pendle Council, and Dean Langton, Strategic Director, to discuss the Council’s proposals to tackle taxi companies whose cars are persistently failing spot checks.

At the meeting representatives of the taxi trade voiced their concerns about the Council’s tougher stance.

It was agreed that a working group would be set up, including councillors from all three political parties, to discuss the proposals further.

The matter will then be referred to Pendle Council’s Taxi Licensing Committee in the New Year.

Councillor Mohammed Iqbal, Leader, said: “Public safety in Pendle is paramount and the number of cars failing spot checks must be improved.

“We’ll continue to work with the taxi trade to seek ways of achieving better standards and ensure that people who use taxis are travelling in safety.”
