Winter’s here! Bad weather advice for Pendle residents

“Winter’s come early with heavy doses of rain, sleet, snow and ice,” said Councillor David Whipp, who leads on community safety and flooding issues.
“That’s why we’re asking Pendle residents to make sure they are fully prepared.
“To help, our website has been newly updated with useful advice on how to stay safe.
“We’ve gathered everything together in one place www.pendle.gov.uk/badweather so that people can be prepared,” he explained.
The bad weather web pages include tips on how to prepare for flooding, snow and ice and include telephone numbers and links to websites where people can get the help and information they need.
Pendle Council’s web pages also link to Home Office advice on finding out if your home or business could be at risk of flooding and on steps people can take to reduce the risk.
Leader of Pendle Council, Councillor Mohammed Iqbal said:
“A staggering 1 in 6 properties in England are at risk of flooding, but there are simple steps people can take to protect their families and homes.
“For example, if you live in a flood risk area, it's a good idea to buy sandbags from your local DIY store and keep them in a shed or garage in case of an emergency.
“On Boxing Day last year there were people in at risk areas in Pendle who were prepared with sandbags and this helped them to avoid being flooded,” he said.
“Anyone who thinks their home or business might be at risk should sign up to the Environment Agency’s Floodline Warnings Direct,” he advised.
“This is a free service which gives flood warnings by telephone, mobile, email and SMS text messages,” he said.
Councillor David Whipp added:
“As someone involved hands-on with flooding on Boxing Day, I appreciate the shock and trauma for the residents affected and urge people to take steps now to keep themselves safe.”
The Council’s web pages also include useful links to Lancashire County Council’s snowcode on clearing snow and ice and being a good neighbour.
There are also links to Lancashire County Council’s gritting routes and updates on road conditions in the county and tips on travelling safely in snow, wind, rain and ice.
