Spring is here! Time to renew garden waste collection

Published: Wednesday, 20th April 2016

Now that spring has sprung and summer is just around the corner, Pendle Council is writing to everyone who's subscribed to the garden waste collection service.

It’s time for people to renew their green bin subscriptions.

Carole Taylor, the Council’s Waste Management Co-ordinator explained:

“The gardening season has started and we’re contacting almost 8,000 customers who’ve signed up to our fortnightly garden waste collection over the last year.”

“Everyone should get their letter by mid May and subscriptions for 1st July this year until 30th June need to reach us by Friday 17th June ,” she said.

“It’s been a very popular service and costs less than 60p a week as the annual subscription is £30 per green bin” said Carole.

The easiest way to pay is online at www.pendle.gov.uk/gardenwaste  quoting the individual garden waste reference number in the letter.

Or there’s another easy way to pay this year using our automated telephone payment system by calling 01282 661743 and pressing  1 to pay,  using a credit or debit card.

Everyone who joins the scheme will get a sticker in around 2 weeks  to put on their green bin to make sure the Council collects the garden waste for recycling from 1st July.

“We know that thousands of people in Pendle who love to garden are keen for us to recycle their garden waste,” said Carole.

“We collect almost 3,000 tonnes of garden waste a year which is recycled into compost and a huge amount is returned to local people via The Big Heap initiative run by Lancashire County Council,” she explained.
