The latest round of Pendle Borough Council’s Household Support Fund has been launched and includes a cash payment to help residents cope with the cost of living.

In October, all properties that are receiving Council Tax Support will receive a voucher to claim a one-off £75 cash payment from the Post Office.

The remaining funds will continue to support local community food organisations so that they can provide food and essential items to Pendle households experiencing financial hardship.

And from October, families who don’t qualify for a Household Support Fund payment may be able to get help with energy bills, prepayment fuel meter top ups or essential household items via Burnley and Pendle Citizens Advice.

Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “I’m delighted that the Government’s Household Support Fund has been extended for the fourth time so that we can continue to provide much-needed help to local people.

“The cost-of-living crisis is affecting us all through high inflation and interest rates and this will go some way to help ease financial pressures for those who most need it.

“If you are in need of emergency food, or low-cost food you can access a range of food banks and community food organisations.

“Visit www.pendle.gov.uk/hsf to find out where they are.”

Those who are eligible for the cash payment will receive a letter with a voucher from October. It will explain how to redeem the payment.

If anyone is worried about the cost of living, the Council’s virtual community support hub is an online directory of around 80 local, regional and national organisations.

It includes information on free activities during the school holidays through the Fun Vibes Active Lives and Xchange Here! schemes.

Councillor Mohammad Ammer, Executive Portfolio Holder for Housing, Health and Wellbeing, added: “We know that this is a challenging time and we want to make it easy for people to get the help they need.

“By visiting Pendle Community Support Hub on our website, you can find organisations which can help with things like accessing food and mental health and wellbeing support.
